Caramel Starfish 2007

Words: Fat Bob, Pics: Bri

Well another year, another Caramel Starfish. Question, why does this rally take so long to come round? I'll tell you why, coz it bloody great fun!

I can't really comment on the Friday night too much as I had stuff to do that prevented me from stayin' over on the Friday but from what I have heard, there was an entertainment problem. Big Wattie from Cavern Rock Disco's PA / power amp or other electrickery thing went PHUT! No more good tunes. Necessity being the mother of invention, a radio was duly found and tuned to some pish or other. Not to everyone’s taste but hey sometimes ya gotta take the rough with the smooth.

Saturday dawned, or didn't... it was absolutely pissing it down! By the time I had done what I need to do and set off for the rally it was hosing it big style and I was naturally soaked before I got there. Luckily I had enough sense to pitch ma tent on the Friday before I had to leave, so it was simply a case of throw in the sleeping bag, eat and drink!

Now I know some of F3 were grumpy about the lack of tunes but WTF, I had just arrived and set ma mind on enjoying meself. After wondering around talking to and at pretty much everybody who stood still for too long, and wondering where the 'kin band was, they arrived! Before the band has finished setting up we were a;; entertained to some of the "best" big glove boxing I have seen in a long time. Suffice to save S&S have won yet another award, this time for best slow motion, missed punches replays, and falling with the grace of a footie star! As well as the "boxing", we were also entertained by Wattie takin' on the younger generation at racing up and down the hall. Now I wont say too much about this, and I didn't get this on film but the competitors are photographed, and are at each side of this paragraph! You can figure out for yoursef who won!

Speedtrap were fairly quickly set up and ready to start, but not before the prize giving and raffles. S&S took best club turnout, and every signed in member of the club won a prize (looked like a thermos flask to me, but Jack D. had turned ma eyesight to shit and focusing that far away was never going to happen). Davie (S&S Pres) won the coveted; Prettiest Club President, and special prize went to Gordon of the S&S. I won't into it here as the images are still too horrible, but those of you who know Gordon can use your imaginations and wince!

Raffles came and went with the usual Starfish Tradition of a mixture of great and silly raffle prizes. As a club, F3 did rather well, but I have no idea of what everyone won, but I do seem to remember a waterproof shower radio. Less said the better!

The band played on, and your story teller got drunk. Meself and Bri musta been doin' something right as we killed all the JD in the bar, then managed to kill off another bottle between us. JD sadly does have a rather unfortunate effect on me... makes ya wanna dance after you get to that certain level of JD and blood in the system. So to all the toes I stood on, or anyone I fell upon I apologise. I won't bore you with the details, but imagine a biker who has not had long hair for the best part of 20 years (now with buggerall hair), but finding his Riff Raff wig (Rocky horror picture show) and the feeling of having hair again. Well you can imagine the kind of dancin' that brought on. As I type this two days later, me neck is still sore! Bloody old age!

For me the Caramel Starfish pulled the rally outta the bag on the Saturday night and I had a feckin' great time. IT was really good to catch up with friends old and make new ones. You know who you are! (Sharon, Rod, Wattie, Walter, Attar, Maggie, Charlie, etc...)

Big up to all from the Starfish for a great weekend. Hopefully someone has pictures, but I know that I don't!
